Oak + cream + warm grey: a palette that ages beautifully

Material notes from three recent renovations and why we keep returning to this trio.

We keep coming back to the same three notes: light oak, soft cream, and a warm mid-grey. They're quiet, but they're not boring — and crucially, they age well.

Oak warms with use. Cream forgives the scuffs of daily life. Warm grey grounds the room without going cold. Together they make a backdrop that lets the people, art and objects in the room be the loud part.

If you're nervous about colour, start here. You can always add a single saturated accent — a chair, a textile, a painting — once the bones feel right.
